Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin

This is another of the 2019 Spring collection. If you love anime about the supernatural, Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin should be added to your watch list.

It follows the story of Arata Miyako, who just happens to get a new job with the Shinjuku ward office. Unbeknownst to him, however, they deal with supernatural happenings and maintaining peace between the seen and unseen worlds.

After a fight breaks out between the tengu and angels, it was revealed that Arata Miyako, in spite of only now being able to see these yokai, was uniquely capable of understanding their language; this was called, "Ears of Sand".

Soon, he remembers that he was actually descended from Abe no Seimei, a human who both befriended, and made many yokai his familiars in the past.

Arata was even lucky enough to meet some of these familiars. In fact, Arata was more than once considered the reincarnation of Abe no Seimei by these familiars.

While the scenery was a bit gloomy (in my opinion), it had a good story-line and while some of the episodes were independent of the last, it was a very fun watch. There aren't many funny scenes and it certainly was a bit more serious than the light-hearted "Morose Mononokean".

However, the kind Arata always seemed to find himself in quite interesting situations as he worked at the Shinjuku ward office, whether it was a drinking competition with a shrine God, getting transported to a parallel world or running away from the guard dog of hell.

His gift helped him to relate to the yokai, although, there were times when some posed a threat to him. Not to mention, his sympathy toward the creatures of the netherworld made others question his true allegiance.

This anime was really relaxing to watch,  but it had a few scary parts (nothing unbearable though). Definitely watch it if you like mystery and anime about the supernatural.
